Iron Pillar palace is renowned for worshiping Xuzu, father of the Ming School of Taoism. In the tenth year of Chongzhen(1637) in Ming Dynasty, the Taoism believer living in Zhenjiang built temple of Iron Pillar palace. It was said that he became immortal god by practice and making elixirs on the Xiaoyao mountain. He made iron pillars to suppress the dragon to guard the safety of travelers crossing the river.
